Job Title: Store Assistant

Purple Me Green provides science toys and educational experiences for all ages.  Our Woodfield Mall location includes a retail store and our Green S.T.E.M. Play Space with animal ambassadors.  We do have outside activities and science classes for various venues.  We are a growing locally, small, women owned business.  This position is an excellent opportunity to grow with us. 

Purple Me Green, The Science Store is looking for a full-time store manager.  We are looking for an enthusiastic, willing to work with customers and children, experienced, organized, and flexible person to grow with us in our science adventure!  Our Store Manager will be in charge of store operations such as but not limited to opening, closing, money and inventory management, merchandising, Green S.T.E.M. Play Space Play, other employee manager and or other activities/projects in coordination with the store owner.

Responsibilities and essential job functions but are not limited to the following

  • Opens and closes Purple Me Green, The Science Store
  • In charge of and helps with merchandising of products in the store.
  • Schedules Science Parties when applicable
  • Responsible for educating customers on the educational value of each product to help them choose the right product.
  • In charge of projects as assigned by store owner(s)
  • Helps during Green S.T.E.M. Play Space play time
  • Daily care of our animal interpreters. Must be comfortable holding and knowledgeable of animals.  We will train you in the information about each animal. 
  • Communicates information about daily store operations to owner(s)
  • Executes store operations during scheduled shifts.
  • Executes money management procedures.
  • Follows and maintains health, safety and sanitation guidelines for all products in the store and Green ST.E.M. Play Space.
  • Maintains regular and punctual attendance
  • Can bring one child (ages 3 to 10) to work when our Green S.T.E.M. Play Space opens to the public one time per week to help with childcare. Conditions apply.  Please ask me during interview.


Basic Qualifications

  • Available to work flexible hours that may include early mornings, evenings, weekends, nights and/or holidays. We will generally provide a set schedule but requires flexibility.  Every other Saturday are a requirement.
  • At least 1 year of experience in a position that required constant interacting with and customers
  • At least 1 year of experience delegating tasks to other employees and/or coordinating the tasks of two (2) or more employees
  • At least 1 year of retail management experience
  • Preferred science and or education background
  • 1 year of experience with children
  • Accepting and complying with our child safety standards
  • Basic computer skills, email, excel, POS systems, internet navigation, etc..
  • Ability to direct the work of others, work independently, and to learn quickly
  • Effective oral communication skills
  • Knowledge of the retail environment
  • Strong interpersonal skills and build relationships
  • Ability to work as part of a team and independently
  • Willingness to learn about science and eco-friendly issues
  • Must fill out a Certification of Income Form and official background check

 

This position is offered as part of a program  funded through the Village of Schaumburg’s Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program, which are funds allocated to the Village on an annual basis from the U.S. Department of Housing & Urban Development (HUD).  The purpose of the CDBG Program is to develop viable communities by providing decent housing and a suitable living environment by expanding economic opportunities, principally for persons of low- and moderate-income. All funded programs/activities must meet The Department of Housing and Urban Development National Objective 570.208 (a)(4) and Eligibility Provision 570.203(b). The program is designed to create permanent jobs involving the employment of low- and moderate-income persons (see attached HUD 2019 Income Limits). The applicant hired for this position will be required to complete a Certification of Income Form.
